The use of gas storage enables you to buy gas in the summer for later deliveries in the winter this has been an essential operational part of the gas industry for decades. Storage gas provides approximately 50% of winter natural requirements to the mid-western and northeastern states. The storage fields used by Stand are in the market areas where Stand’s customers are located. Having market area storage available provides the firm supplies required by many of Stand’s customers.

Many of Stand’s customers have elected to purchase gas supplies year round even though their usage is primarily in the winter season. This has provided them a hedge against high winter spikes in natural gas prices and levels out their energy payments throughout the year.
